Moore County Courthouse

Date Visited: May 30th, 2004

Address: 202 Monroe Street, Carthage

Very interesting old courthouse.  It's on a square and has a confederate soldier.

This was the keystone and caused much discussion.  What did "AL" mean? In the end I found the answer on a website called Answerpool (now defunct) The folks there told me it stood for "Anno Lucis" or year of light.  It's a masonic standard meant to set the date of creation at 4000 BC.  At least we know who laid the cornerstone.

The WW1 cannon was presented to the county by the US Army. A county resident had gone to fight in WWI with the French and died in battle. This was before the US had entered the war.
